Reflection - War Memorial

 

Early in the book Sadie discovered the War Memorial, which influenced her extremely negative attitude towards living in Boort.  She grew intrigued by her own family history and became connected with the town. This is similar to my experience of staying in Charleville last January. At first I felt awkward and uncomfortable, as many do in a foreign place, but after discovering that my great grandfather’s name appeared in several places around the town, including a plaque in the War History Museum, I instantly felt a sense of belonging and I yearned to learn more about his life and achievements.
